Human Rights in Africa: May 14 and 20
Bishop Christopher Senyonjo, champion for human rights in Africa, is visiting Orange County from West Buganda, Uganda. His visit will provide a chance to hear the personal stories of this man who has taken a stand against the homophobic laws of Uganda.
He will speak Friday, May 14, at 7:30pm at St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 2200 San Joaquin Hills Rd, Newport Beach. Information: 949-644-1341.

Harvey Milk Celebration: May 21
The first Orange County Harvey Milk Celebration will be Friday, May 21, at Yost Theater, 307 Spurgeon St., Santa Ana. Performances by OCEC Storytellers and Men Alive, as well as screening of the documentary "Life and Times of Harvey Milk.
AIDS Walk Orange County: May 22
The 2010 AIDS Walk Orange County will be Saturday, May 22, from 7am to 1pm at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine. Under the Orange Balloon off the I-5 Santa Ana Freeway.
The 5 km walk is organized to raise awareness and funds to help HIV and AIDS prevention and care in Orange County. All are welcome to participate and help raise funds. Information: ocaidswalk.org

Stand for Health Care rally
A Stand for Health Care rally will be held
Wednesday, March 17
, at noon in front of the Orange County Register, 625 N. Grand Ave., Santa Ana.
All are invited to stand up for every person who cannot afford health care, for everyone who has been turned away by insurance companies because of a pre-existing condition, for everyone who has lost health care access when they lost work or got sick.
Wear green and bring a sign. The rally is sponsored by Orange County councils of MoveOn.

War in Iraq: Seven Years is Too Many
This month marks seven years since the US invasion of Iraq. Vigils and demonstations to call for peace are planned across the country. Local gatherings include:
In Irvine: Candlelight vigil is planned Sunday, March 21, 7-8:30 pm at the corner of Alton Parkway and Culver Drive. It will be in remembrance of the casualties of war as well as to demonstrate for peace. All are welcome and requested to bring signs and candles. This event is sponsored by the Peace and Justice Advocates of the Irvine United Congregational Church.
In Los Angeles:The Orange County Peace Coalition is reserviing bus transportation from Santa Ana and Seal Beach to the Saturday, March 20, ANSWER Los Angeles Protest. Bus will leave Santa Ana around 10 am. For reservations call Sharon Tipton at 949 257-8501.

OC for Darfur to meet
Orange County for Darfur continues its efforts to raise awareness of what is happening in Sudan, Congo, Burma, and about issues relevant to preventing future genocides.
We hope those who want to be involved will join us at our next meeting this

Tet Parade controversy: LGBT rights
The Vietnamese Gay Alliance, Song That Radio and O-Moi plan to march in the Tet Festival Parade
Saturday, Feb. 13,
starting at 9:30 am. This will be the first time LGBT groups have marched in the Orange County Tet Parade. Their goal is to demonstrate that there is a thriving Vietnamese LGBT community in California and to promote acceptance of LGBT people in the mainstream Vietnamese community.
A number of groups have protested their paricipation and some have even withdrawn from the parade. Organizers of the LGBT presence fear that there may be protestors on the parade route who will try to intimidate them.
Supporters are urged to come to the parade with signs of support and cheer as LGBT groups march by.
The parade is held on Bolsa Avenue, between Magnolia and Bushard in Westminster.
Stand up for state parks
More than 100 are expected to participate in the 8th annual Park Advocacy Day Monday,
March 8, 8:30-5:30
in Sacramento. This event gives park advocates the opportunity to gather together in to stand up for California’s 278 state parks. Participants will spend the day meeting with policymakers to discuss the challenges facing state parks and the need for their action.

Islamic Society: Women's Rights
Nayereh Tohidi of Cal State Northridge will speak
Tuesday, March 9 at 7 pm
on Women's Rights in Islamic Society. The event will be at Soka University, in recognition of International Women’s Day. Tohidi has combined her academic career studying women and gender issues with community activism. She has served as a consultant to the United nations and presented at the World Conferences on Women in both 1985 and 1995.

Clean Elections measure
The board of Women For: OC has endorsed the June 2010 ballot measure which creates a voluntary system for candidates for Secretary of State to qualify for a public campaign grant. Volunteers are needed for the campaign and can sign up at www.caclean.org.

state parks support training
A training session for gathering signatures for an iniative to support state parks will be

at the Duck Club, 5 Riparian View Way in Irvine (at the San Joaquin Marsh).
California State Park Foudation, the Sierra Club and Audubon California are working to collect signatures to put an initiative on the November ballot that would protect our state park in perpetuity. The initiative would provide an $18 vehicle licensing fee that would give those with a California vehicle license free day use of all state parks.
