Tet Parade controversy: LGBT rights

The Vietnamese Gay Alliance, Song That Radio and O-Moi plan to march in the Tet Festival Parade Saturday, Feb. 13, starting at 9:30 am. This will be the first time LGBT groups have marched in the Orange County Tet Parade. Their goal is to demonstrate that there is a thriving Vietnamese LGBT community in California and to promote acceptance of LGBT people in the mainstream Vietnamese community.

A number of groups have protested their paricipation and some have even withdrawn from the parade. Organizers of the LGBT presence fear that there may be protestors on the parade route who will try to intimidate them.

Supporters are urged to come to the parade with signs of support and cheer as LGBT groups march by.

The parade is held on Bolsa Avenue, between Magnolia and Bushard in Westminster.
